Dawn Jacob was born in Newton, Kansas, amid sprawling wheat fields and big skies. She has long been an admirer of scenes that evoke nature, and confesses to getting weepy in museums across the country while viewing original Monets and Matisses.
This passion has grown in breadth and depth over the years. Dawn's early talents earned her an art scholarship in college; in more recent years, while traveling in Europe, her inspiration was renewed by pilgrimages to Monet's home and water gardens at Giverny.
Upon returning to her home in Norfolk, she began to study impressionistic oil painting with local artist, Charles Kello. Her new work reflects her fascination with the interplay of light upon everyday subjects. When she's not painting, Dawn can be found squinting at a confounding tree configuration, feeling sea water between her toes, or absorbing an amazing sunset.
